Slack Times are a band built on reinvention. Featuring longtime collaborators Chris McCauley, Abby Anderson, Stuart Norman, and newest member Jonathan Ruiz, the band creates jangly, melodic pop songs reminiscent of early Flying Nun and K Records — intimate, unhurried, and quietly addictive.

Their first full length, Carried Away (Meritorio Records, 2022), boasted a bigger sound with a five-piece lineup. In 2023, the band pared back, working as a trio to record the Gone Things EP (Meritorio Records, 2024) — a leaner, more introspective release that pointed toward new possibilities.

In 2025, Slack Times took its fourth form when Jonathan joined as bass player, allowing Stuart to transition back to guitar and restoring a sense of balance and space to the band's sound. The new lineup didn't take long to find its footing. In early 2026, the band travelled to Columbus, MS, recording their new full length with friends and collaborators from Hartle Road. Tracking live to tape in just a couple of takes, the goal was simple: capture the moment.

The result is Casting, out November 2026 on Meritorio Records. A short record, but a surprising one — still rooted in the jangly melodicism that defines Slack Times at their core, but reaching further than ever before. Straight-ahead indie rock with touches of Luna, Yuck, and Sonic Youth surfaces alongside the gentler pop instincts the band has always had, suggesting a group comfortable enough in their own skin to take risks and pull them off.
