Exploding Flowers have always operated in their own universe. The Los Angeles quartet — Sharif Dumani, Josh Mancell (the Moon Upstairs, Cell\Borg), Happy Tsugawa-Banta (Lassie Foundation, Ray Barbee), and Mark Sogomian (the Moon Upstairs) — have spent the better part of a decade refining a sound built on ringing guitars, soaring harmonies, and richly layered arrangements that draw from the best of melody-obsessed pop without sounding beholden to any single era or scene.

Alphabet Window, their fourth full length, is the fullest realisation of that sound yet. Piano, organ, synthesizers, vibraphone, and percussion weave through twelve songs that balance immediacy with atmosphere — music that feels both timeless and refreshingly new. The band's restless creative spirit is everywhere: hooks arrive fast and stay long, arrangements reveal new details with each listen, and the whole thing moves with the kind of confident momentum that only comes from a group that knows exactly what they're doing.

Comparisons have ranged from Big Star to The Soft Boys, from L.A.'s Paisley Underground to the Flying Nun roster of the 1980s — The Chills, The Bats, and their ilk. Bandcamp Daily's Mariana Timony described the band as "a colorful and kind-spirited amalgamation that will press all the right buttons for a certain type of pop fan starved for some jangling guitars, handclaps, and sparkling melodies."
